Families Dine Out: ART at Four Seasons Seattle

Hotels we love

12 Sep

Imagine this, a sleek five star Northwest Modern hotel, upscale dining with cotton candy on the dessert menu and a rooftop pool deck with stunning views of water, mountains and sunsets, oh and it’s all family-friendly? Well hello Four Seasons Seattle and ART Restaurant.

12ft Wine Wall for Big Kids

Within walking distance of Pike Place Market, ART with its sweeping views of the water and refined yet relaxed mood, has banished all notions of bad hotel food. Instead their menu is locally sourced and seasonally-driven with a little global influence, and includes highlights like the sweet, buttery and slightly smoky Indian Spiced Wild King Salmon, the perfectly crispy, chewy and savory Sweet Shrimp Stuffed Squash Blossoms and the warm, juicy and gently perfumed Moroccan Spiced Lamb.

ART is the brainchild of Kerry Sear, a British chef turned Northwest icon, who is no stranger to traveling and dining out with kids himself. He was recently in Istanbul with his children and has even dared to dine at The French Laundry with youngsters in tow (although we think you probably need to be a well respected chef to pull that off!).

HipTravelMama dined at ART and enjoyed the 7 Days of Art series, an ongoing event featuring a nightly tasting menu focused on a particular wine or food. We love the serious food presented in a whimsical style – multiple preparations of fresh local crab or steak presented in TV Trays and a “Big Chill Tuesdays” ice-cream tasting menu that will thrill tiny diners. Sunday is Family Dinner Day, featuring a $100-for-four family style dinner featuring roast chicken, bottomless sides and apple pie and ice-cream for dessert. Check out the exciting lineup of tasting menus here.

If your little diners are craving kid comfort food, Chef Sear and the ART team have them covered. While we don’t normally embrace the idea of a kids’ menu, we love what ART has done with theirs. Yes they have pizza, but it’s thin crust and would be a worthy accompaniment to a glass of wine. Yes they have mini-burgers, but they’re available in beef, salmon or veggie and are one of the most popular items with adults during happy hour in the lounge (extra toppings available include truffle butter and pancetta)!

Donuts @ ART Seattle

So about that cotton candy? With a dessert menu that includes a Space Needle Sundae topped with a cotton candy cloud, a red velvet baked Alaska and ARTs signature box of vanilla dusted donuts served with lemon meringue sherbet and blueberry compote, it’s not only children who will be thrilled by their post-dinner sugar fix!

Hip Tips:

  • Stay overnight as part of the Kids in the City package, and your little ones can tour the kitchen and make cotton candy with the pastry chef.
  • We would recommend taking your kids earlier in the evening, which most people do anyway.
  • Reservations recommended for Saturday Family Dinners.
