Hip Hotel Review: Allison Inn & Spa

Hotels we love

7 Jun

Our stay at the Allison Inn & Spa last weekend was completely spontaneous. We were driving around in the rain in Portland on Memorial Day Weekend, planning to head home to Seattle that night, when we got a wild idea to spend another night in Oregon’s beautiful Wine Country. I’m so glad we did. The Allison Inn & Spa is a luxurious escape in the heart of some of Oregon’s best wineries.

Hip Room: The standard rooms are a spacious 600 square feet and each have their own terrace or balcony that open up to garden or vineyard views. The bath tub is HUGE and you could easily put a crib or pack n play in the bathroom to make it work with a small baby/toddler. The crib was very clean and stylish and portable (as we rolled it into the bathroom and back to the bedroom so we could watch a movie after bedtime for the little one. The Allison Inn also has luxury one and two bedroom suites for larger families traveling with kids.

Hip Property: The Allison Inn is set up on a hillside surrounded by beautiful vineyards and sprawling open space. The grounds have meandering paths and a open grassy area surrounded by Adirondack chairs that are a great place for the kids to run and play. With an indoor pool, hot tub, fitness center and beautiful spa, it was a perfect getaway for our family rain or shine. The property also has onsite babysitting available for families.

Hip Food: The Allison Inn is a short drive to nearby Newberg and Dundee restaurants and groceries, and the on-site JORY Restaurant and Bar serves Wine Country cuisine and has an extensive wine list. For dinner, the staff made us last minute reservations at nearby Farm to Fork  restaurant in Dundee, but we will save that for another post. We had room service for breakfast and enjoyed lemon pancakes with berries, homemade sausage, eggs benny and other treats. The coffee was also delicious.

Hip Family Fun: Touring wine country is not typically a kid-friendly activity, however there are lots of places to picnic and wineries with room to run around in Willamette Valley. To plan your trip, visit OregonWineCountry.com. Canas Feast Winery has outdoor events, and bocce ball on the lawn, and Farm to Fork offers gourmet picnic lunches and baskets to enjoy a picnic at your choice of wineries.

The Price: Standard deluxe guestrooms start at $295 a night, and the Allison Inn offers some very good packages and deals.

While we didn’t get enough time to check out the Spa while we were there, we most certainly will be back to stay again and indulge in a little pampering. Overall, The Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg, Oregon is a luxe escape for families and is also a great place to plan your next romantic getaway, or girls weekend.
