A Romantic Date for Two in Paris

Places to go

14 Feb

All of this love for Valentine’s Day has HipTravelMama dreaming of a romantic getaway to Paris. Even if you can’t be there for the big day, perhaps you can plan ahead for another special occasion. Join Amandine Dubessay, a native Parisian and founder of Rue Amandine, as she paints the picture of a date for romance with an authentic Parisian getaway in the heart of Montmarte.

Let‘s imagine…you’re off for a getaway to Paris to live like Parisians for the weekend. If you are looking for a unique way to experience Paris, consider renting an apartment in one of the local neighborhoods. This lovely Montmartre apartment that has been booked for you…ready to help you live a unique Parisian experience!

Welcome home…

After a long flight, you put down your luggage, open the windows and “feel the place”. Just outside the window of this beautiful Montmartre apartment you can smell the pastries baking from the Boulangerie Alexine and the line of people on the street below waiting to be served.

Gridskipper nominated Boulangerie Alexine as one of the hottest Paris Bakeries.

An evening out…

Let’s start with a drink to feel the Parisian life!! In February, the weather is a bit cold for a drink on the terrace. But I have something better for you. Come and have a glass of Champagne (or two) at what I call my secret place, a clandestine-like bar called Très Particulier, hidden in a charming Montmartre alley. You won’t find this chic spot on your own. There is no sign on the gate and you must ring the bell to join the happy few who know about this place. Do not miss the foie gras with fig chutney.

Next, take time for a romantic evening stroll without the crowd of tourists, and head up the stairs to Sacré Coeur. At the top you are greeted by a spectacular view of Paris by night.  As a child, I frequently visited this spot with my parents and would practice my knowledge of all Parisian monuments.

A day in Paris…

Wake up and head across the street to Boulangerie Alexine for a fresh baguette or croissant and nespresso and enjoy people watching while you get ready to explore Paris! Today, you may explore the Montmartre, its charming little streets going up and down, and its many wonderful boutiques.  One of my favorite Montmartre boutiques is Emmanuel Zyzmann. I have a real coup de coeur for this designer of sophisticated yet simple jewels with precious and semi precious stones. A hint for all you husbands out there: Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. I could spend hours in this boutique and I will make sure that my boyfriend reads this post.

A Visit to Musée du Jeu de Paume

After lunch, let’s get out of Montmartre for a while… Climb on a velib to the Tuileries Garden, near le Louvre to Musée du Jeu de Paume, right in the Tuileries‘s garden, to view the works of photographer André Kertész, and his view on Paris in the 20’s and 30’s. It’s not the Paris on post cards, but the Paris he used to live in and feel…

The best way to experience Paris is by foot, so explore the shores of the Seine, meandering up the streets, going up towards Montmartre, passing via Palais Royal, Opera, stopping at the not-to be missed Pierre Hermé, to savor sweets from the king of macaroons.

Are you still following me?

A bit tired from so much walking? You can grab a bottle of wine at the nearby Cave des Abbesses, with a piece of good smelly cheese and rest for a bit in your apartment. Don’t forget to leave room for dinner and see what’s waiting for you at Momoka, a hip Japanese restaurant a short walk from your apartment in Montmartre.  This is a cozy romantic spot with amazing food and delicious dessert.

As you reflect on the great day you’ve had, just the two of you, you know that tomorrow is another day in Paris… How will you spend it? Bonne nuit!
