A-Z #WellTraveledFamily Challenge: E is for Education

Travel Tips

19 Jun

Inspiring your children and fostering a love of travel is one of the greatest gifts you can give to your #WellTraveledFamily. Travel is a great way to learn about other people, explore your world, and meet people from different cultures. Want to join the A-Z #WellTraveledFamily challenge? Details below!

From keeping a travel journal to learning the basics of travel, there are many ways you can empower your children to become expert travelers and continue to travel for years to come:

1. Books on the Basics

Providing books for your children on different places, cultures, and languages is a great way to teach them about the value of travel. A few that we love are The Smart Kids Picture Atlas, The Horrible Geography of the World, and Flags of the World. Incorporating places that your little ones have visited or plan into their daily lives will enrich their travel experiences.

2. Keep a Travel Journal

Another great way to help your children reflect on their journeys and dream about places they want to visit is encouraging a travel journal. They can keep mementos from their trips, whether it’s a shell they found on the beach or tickets from a plane trip. Writing down their favorite things can help them form lasting memories of their trips.
3. Teach Your Children How to Travel

If you can teach your kids to travel well, you’ll not only make your journeys easier and help them enjoy the whole experience of traveling. You can show your children how to pack by asking questions like “You’re going to swim in the pool. What do you need to pack?” or “We will be gone for a week, how many outfits do you think you’ll need?” You can even calm anxiety around travel by explaining how travel works and what to expect while they are out and about.

How do you inspire a love of travel in your children? Let us know in the comments or on Facebook!

Start the A-Z #WellTraveledFamily Summer Challenge today! What is it and how do you play?
