Spontaneous Kirkland staycation at The Woodmark, Carillon Point

Hotels we love

2 Oct

I was out for a run one afternoon this summer when I got a totally wild idea. My husband was out of town – how fun would it be to surprise the girls with a last minute overnight stay?

Explore Kirkland runs an outdoor movie night in the park series during the summer. That evening, they were showing Raiders of the Lost Ark (one of our family’s favorite Indiana Jones films) and the venue coincidentally happened to be right outside the Woodmark Hotel at Carillon Point. I was sold. I booked us a room and packed up the girls (and the dog) and took the short car ride to Kirkland. After a walk on the waterfront and dinner at The Bin Cafe, we made a quick snack run to Metropolitan Market for snacks (and wine for mom). Our room looked out directly on the outdoor movie screen, so we watched from the comfort of our room balcony.

The Woodmark hotel is a very popular wedding venue, and it is also an incredibly relaxing place to stay for quick staycation. There is so much to do in Kirkland in any season – from shopping, to walking the waterfront of Lake Washington, art galleries and great restaurants. And you can’t beat the water views from every corner of Lake Washington.

Here are a few tips to book your own stay this fall:

  • Always check special offers before you book and compare rates
  • Check out the Woodmark Hotel’s great suggestions of Fall activities
  • Make it a spa day. The Woodmark Hotel’s spa is amazing. Grab a girlfriend and book a Spa and Stay package
  • Explore their blog for more great ideas of what to do in and around Kirkland

Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of busy life, spontaneous trips make the best memories.
